Past Development Scotfield bring £60 million Ikea store to Sheffield road

In 2008 Scotfield purchased the 15 acre site adjacent to the Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield as part of an investment portfolio with the goal of providing furniture giant Ikea the opportunity to open an outlet in the area.

The land for the proposed 37,000 sq m Ikea was acquired from existing occupier Betafence on a sale and leaseback basis allowing them to rationalise their space into the Shepcote Lane facility and leaving the Sheffield Road site for development.

Scotfield provided consultation and necessary drive throughout the planning process working with Ikea and Sheffield City Council, and in 2016 work began on the 398,000 sq ft megastore which opened for business in 2017.

It is one of Ikea’s largest stores in Europe with its own tram stop and parking for 983 cars.
